What advice can you give a kid who wants to leave school and is trying to convince his or her parents that it is a good idea?

I think that if you want to get out of school, it's best to not just focus on how bad school is for you but focus on all the positive things that will happen if you are out of school; all the good things that you will accomplish if you are not in an institutionalized educational setting. Thanks Candra and Radio Free School,

An interesting and inspiring, relaxed conversation that touches on a number of things at the heart of unschooling...

It's great that young people in the US have the opportunity and choice to homeschool / unschool. It's illegal here in Hong Kong, and that, in my opinion, is damaging!

Thank you for sharing this. I am a homeschooling mama that tries very hard to stand back and let the kids design their education.

@Andrew-I didn't know unschooling was illegal in Hong Kong. Are there any alternative education options available at all?

@Debra-Thanks Debra. We will have more interviews with grown unschoolers. Please continue to listen to the interviews by clicking on the links on the blog.

Not to diss Radio Free School--we love RFS! In fact, we might want to rebroadcast this interview. How bout it, Beatrice? :-)

@Peter-Sure thing. I'm sure Kennedy would be fine with that.

You can still follow an unschool philosophy and go to school even if your parents don't let you leave. Really focus on finding mentors who can support your learning/interests and wait it out. Good luck to those who are stuck in school for the time being.
